Stick Figure Page:

Complete a reference section in your sketchbook that illustrates the basic Stick Figure to be used in Advanced Drawing and Painting. Follow the basic step-by-step directions below to add the "Stick Figure " section to your sketchbook

Mounting the Stick Figure examples into your sketchbook:

(Always save a space at the top or along the side for a page title.)

  1. Open your sketchbook to the next blank page.
  2. If necessary, paint or prepare the page for new information.
  3. Carefully tear or creatively cut out your stick figure details limiting the amount of negative space in each sketch (crop the drawings).
    1. The stick figure details are the head, torso, hands, and feet.
  4. Creatively arrange your stick figure details on the page you intend to mount them allowing some room for annotations next to each one (see expectations below).
  5. Glue in the samples of each stick figure detail making sure the samples are well glued down so that they do not become dislodged from the repeated turning of pages.
  6. Open your sketchbook to the next blank page.
  7. If necessary, paint or prepare the page for new information.
  8. Select your two best examples of a stick figure taken from a magazine. Creatively cut out your stick figure examples limiting the amount of negative space in each sample (crop the images).
  9. Creatively arrange your stick figure examples on the page you intend to mount them allowing some room for annotations next to each one (see expectations below)
  10. Glue in the samples making sure the examples are well glued down so that they do not become dislodged from the repeated turning of pages.

Authoring the Stick Figure Page

  1. Label the pages of your sketchbook at the top or along the side neatly with the title, “The Stick Figure.”
  2. Using colored pencils, gel pens, or felt-tipped pens, label each sample as “Head,” “Torso,” “Hands,” and “Feet.” Annotate the drawings with the following:
    1. A head looking up
    2. A head looking down
    3. The differences between male stick figure torsos and female stick figure torsos
    4. The palm
    5. The thumb
    6. The heel
    7. The toes
    8. The ankle
  3. Repeat step 2 for the stick figure examples you’ve chosen from those found in a magazine.
